Fueling Aircraft

Fuel  and oil available through either Flight Park (310-373-2222) or South Bay (310-791-5454)    

Access to Aircraft
Upon booking we will provide code for lockbox attached to wing tie-down to access airplane key. 

Returning the Aircraft
During business hours: Log all hobbs and tach start and end times in airplane book and return to front desk.    
After business hours: Log all hobbs and tach start and end times in airplane book and leave in aircraft.    

Getting Reimbursed if You Buy Fuel Elsewhere
 Provide receipt with airplane tail number clearly marked. We will reimburse at the current airport fuel rate. 

Mechanical Problems at Another Airport
Call Pacific Skies immediately with any aircraft issues.   

Securing the Aircraft Post-Flight
No driving in or pivoting airplanes before shutdown. Pull up perpendicular to assigned spot, shutdown, and use tow bar to back airplane into spot. Please secure all tiedowns.    
What Fuel Load to Expect, and How to Change It
Fuel is typically added upon pre-flight inspection.    

Local Airspace Considerations                        

Standard Departure Procedures
-When departing off runway 29, turn at or before Hawthorn BLVD or provide best rate of climb to 1000 ft or higher

-Straight out departures shall fly out to the shoreline before making any turns

-A box climb is usuallly requested to gain altitude before proceeding enroute to Los Angeles special flight rules area

Be very cautious of surrounded Class Bravo. All pilots should have a current LA TAC.  

Best Way to Get Flight Following

Flight following can be obtained from either ground control on 120.9 or with SoCal Approach to the east on 127.2    

Local Reporting Points
Refer to the Los Angeles TAC. Most pilots usually report inbound from Angels Gate. 


*Typical TFR Considerations 

Disneyland TFR – 3 mile radius, below 3000 feet. All pilots should get a standard briefing from FSS before their flights.  

Routine Radio Position Reports
Pilots should also use the pilot-to-pilot communication frequencies in the practice area south of the Torrance class Delta (121.95 above 2000 feet, 122.85 below 2000 feet)

Taxi to the Runway
Taxiing to both Runway 29 and 11 is along taxiway A. Sometimes ground may ask you to taxi via the ramp. 

Run Up Area
Adjacent to the area prior to beginning of runway, for 29R and 11L. Refer to the taxi diagram for runup areas for 29L and 11R (located on south side of taxiway A) 


What Does Tower Want You Tod Do Before You Call?

  • All IFR departures shall call tower away from the runup area.  
Special Cautions for Flying the Pattern  
Avoid flying the south pattern if possible for noise abatement. No pattern work allowed on Sunday and holidays.

Unique Weather Challenges / Microclimates
Low stratus is common in the mornings and late afternoons. Pay close attention to LAX and LGB TAF reports, as well as temp/depoint spreads.    
Best Airports to Visit Area
  • Santa barbara, San Diego, Palm Springs are all within 1 hr. 
  • Vegas is about 2 hours 
  • Catalina (requires additional checkout, from PSA) about 20 minutes.    

Best Sites to See From the Air
  • South Palos Verdes coastline
  • Catalina Island 
  • Major Los Angeles sights such as Marina Del Rey, Getty Center, Hollywood sign, Dodger stadium (beware those pesky TFR’s).
