Please do not top off the aircraft if you're only planing for an hour flight. The aircraft has 3.0 hours FOB at the tabs (17gal each side = 34 gal usable total). That's plenty for a 1.0 hr flight. Top off the tanks ONLY when you plan on flying more than 2.0 hrs.
access to aircraft during business hours
Keys are always kept in the aircraft by the flap handle while the engine is off. Aircraft is kept unlocked and covered with the cabin cover at all times when not in use. Please follow that procedure at all times.

returning aircraft after business hours
Please call Signature Flight Support - West when you're approximately 10-15min out on 130.575 for parking instructions. They may or may not answer. The ramp gets very busy at night time. Please plan ahead and follow ground crew hand signals and instructions at all times.
getting reimbursed if you buy fuel elsewhere
If you do fuel away from the airport, please ensure to have a copy of the receipt upon arrival. Also, please be sure to note the total fuel added (in gals) on the flight log form.
standard departure procedures
Don't just fly runway heading on departure, track runway centerline. Have the 16R ILS tuned in and track it outbound, or be cognizant of your ground track when departing on 16L/34R. The reason for this procedure is the helicopter arrivals and departures track a parallel path to the 16R/L runways between 1000 and 1700 feet while you're on upwind. 16R/L departures: No turn until you're abeam the flood-control basin (usually just to your left on departure, about 2nm from VNY VOR) unless otherwise instructed by ATC. 34L/R departures: Fly straight out (no turns) until reaching 1800' MSL, unless otherwise instructed by ATC.

noise sensitive areas
The entire area is noise sensitive. Santa Monica Airport does have curfews. Check local procedures. No engine starts before 0700.
High air-traffic area. Maintain sterile cockpit on departure and arrival. ATC may have you go around when landing 16L due to Jet arrivals. Wake turbulence is always a consideration when operating in and out of all airports in this area.
Terrain all quadrants of the area. Climb with purpose above at least 2200' MSL when Southbound.
nearby special use airspace
Class C shelf overtop KVNY. Class B from 5000'MSL over the Santa Monica mountains about 5MN South of KVNY.
air carrier arrival paths to be avoided
High air-traffic area. Maintain sterile cockpit on departure and arrival. ATC may have you go around when landing 16L due to Jet arrivals. Wake turbulence is always a consideration when operating in and out of all airports in this area. Heavy-catagory aircraft fly right above KVNY on approach to KBUR; be careful on downwind for wake turbulence. Flying over Simi Valley and surrounding hills, be sure to speak with or at least listen to SoCal on 134.20 for Burbank arrivals that descent down to 4000'MSL from about 7000'MSL in that area. When departing rwy 16 on a right crosswind (Westbound) be sure to stay along the 101 and do not climb above 2900'MSL until passing Warner Center so as not to interfere with KBUR arrivals and their Class C airspace.
unique weather challenges / microclimates
Fog is always a consideration. Check TAFs and temp/DP spread to understand what the climate is doing. IFR conditions can at times develop in less than 15min time, especially at night. TAFs are not always reliable sources of information for development and dissipation of local "marine layer" foggy conditions. Check area forecast for cloud tops estimate. Thick marine layers don't usually burn off until after 1200 or so.
local terrain considerations
Terrain all quadrants of the area. Climb with purpose above at least 2200' MSL when Southbound. No less than 3500'MSL through the Newhall Pass. Be cognizant of IFR arrivals on the ILS through the Newhall Pass.
best site to visit in the area
Malibu, Hollywood Sign, Downtown LA, LA coastline, Catalina Island
restrictions which apply to any nearby national parks
Normal wildlife refuge / sanctuary / and national park restrictions per VFR charts and procedures.
local laws / rules not listed on the charts
When in doubt, ask ATC. Do not assume you know anything. That seems to keep us out of trouble.
density altitude considerations
Trips to the following airports are PROHIBITED unless cleared with our Chief Pilot in advance: Big Bear (L35) Mammoth (MMH) Mariposa (MPI) Reno Area (all airports) Lake Tahoe Area (all airports) Truckee (TRK) Catalina Island (AVX) Santa Paula (SZP)

taxiing to the runways
Exit the "Signature WEST" ramp by making a (16L/R) left on taxiway "A" and continue all the way down to the end to hold short runway 16R at taxiway "C" -or- (3R/L) right onto taxiway "A" and continue all the way down to the end to hold short runway 34L at taxiway "R" Taxiway "A" (and the airport in general) is uphill taxiing North and downhill taxiing South. Taxiway "A" is slanted slightly downward to the East (toward the runways), so you need some left pedal while taxiing North and a little right peddle while taxiing South.
run up area
Per airport rules and design. Designated run up areas are located at the end of each runway (Taxiway C and R).
What does the tower want you to do before you call ready for takeoff?
Be ready to go if they say "cleared for 'immediate' takeoff." If you're not ready, do not accept the clearance. Keep in mind there are a mass amount of fast moving jets in the area.

preferred pattern entries
45deg Entry at all times, unless otherwise instructed by ATC. TPA to the West: 2000'msl. TPA to the East: 1800'msl.
