Aircraft in excellent condition, with a G430 with TIS/Terrain and everything working OK. Really good experience.
Great with everything working as expected
Airplane is very well maintained. Paint was fresh, no corrosion or dings, aircraft was clean. The panel has been modernized and was in excellent shape as was the interior. No cracks in the plastic, belts were in good shape, etc. For a 172 the airplane is in stellar shape.
The office crew at Regal Air are also great. Very helpful and courteous. Their facility is nice with a pilot store and some flight planning areas.
Great plane, the gps even has a traffic alert system. Indicated airspeed is in knots. The airframe only has the usual door locking mechanism issues, other than that a perfect plane. Take a look at how flaps are operated before take off.
A good, thorough checkout. Very pleased with the instructor and with Regal Air in general. The flap switch on N724TM is a design I hadn't seen before -- careful when raising them on a go-around, because it's easy to inadvertently raise them all the way up in one shot. The CLR button on the GNS 430W didn't work, but I imagine that's something they'll get fixed soon.
My friend, (an experienced airline pilot and flight instructor) made the comment that he was expecting a far less well-maintained airplane for the price. Since it only has 150 HP, 4TM doesn't fly as much as some of the others in the Regal Fleet, but for our purposes, it was great. It was a mild spring day, and it flew great. The new GPS is easy to use, the airplane was clean. The only quirk I found was the primer is a bit tight and required some effort to engage. It's a fine example of a 172 of this vintage, and I look forward to flying it again.
